Lee Unkrich and Brad Bird!

Yesterday I was surprised by getting a large envelope from Pixar, with a red, shiny, foil seal that has a monkey on it...guess who it was from? Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3! (The red monkey seal should have given it away for me, because I know Lee is a huge monkey fanatic!) He sent me an autographed Toy Story 3 photo and a personally typed letter which I thought was too cool! I completely understand him declining my request for a sketch, because if you didn't know, he is the only Pixar director to date that wasn't an animator first...he was something in the technical field, I forget at the moment. I think this is a huge success and it will be up on my wall in no time! (Click on the letter to make it bigger so you can read it!)
As if that wasn't enough to make my day, I also got an autographed photo from Brad Bird, who is the director of The Incredibles and Ratatouille! :)

Oh, and guess what? I start Animation Mentor in 12 days (on the 27th) and I am soo excited, I can hardly contain it inside me! Be sure to follow this blog by clicking the follow button on this page if you want to see the progress I make with my animation work, because once I start, I plan on sharing all my work each week on here! :)

  1. Hey Willie, good luck at AM! I just read your letter from Aaron Hartline. He was my first mentor and I think my class was his first at the school (I think). He was an awesome mentor and it's amazing how thorough those mentors can be. The school is fantastic and it's exciting to be a part of it all. I am going into class 6 on the 27th (I can't believe it's almost over) and I hope to see you around campus. Feel free to look me up when you get there (I'll stop by your workspace as well) and ask me anything about the assignments. You can never have too many eyes on your shots.

    Good Luck!

  2. Hey Steve! Thanks man, I am so excited to start AM in a couple days...I have been looking forward to it for a long time! I am taking the Maya Springboard Workshop this term and then starting class 1 in Jan. I would love to have Aaron as a mentor, that would be cool...he is such an awesome person. Although, I know no matter who I get as a mentor, they will be incredible! I bet it's exciting to be going into class 6 now! Once we start, I will look for you on there. I can't wait to get started! I hear ya, I am sure I can take as much feedback as I can...I want to get the most out of my experience!

    Thanks again for your comment!
    Willie
